A division of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE), GE Vernova’s Gas Power arm, has recently scored two contracts from subsidiaries of the Royal Golden Eagle Group – East Asia Power (Yangjiang) Co., Ltd. and Beijing Energy International Holding Co., Ltd. These agreements entail the supply of four sets of 6F.03 gas turbines.
GE Vernova operates through the integration of GE Digital, Renewable Energy, and GE Power. Among its segments is the Gas Power business, encompassing General Electric’s gas lifecycle operations, which include Power Services and Gas Power Systems.
According to the terms of the arrangement, GE will furnish East Asia Power with two 6F.03 gas turbine units designated for the Yangjiang High-Tech Zone Natural Gas Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant. Additionally, another two units will be delivered to BJEI’s Yangjiang Yangxi Natural Gas CHP Project. The forthcoming Yangjiang CHP Plant will run on GE turbines, addressing the electricity demands of the Yangjiang High-Tech Zone Natural Gas business hub.
The first of the two 6F.03 gas turbine units is scheduled to commence operations in December 2024, with the second one expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2025. As per the contract terms, General Electric will also extend its services to the power plant for the ensuing 15 years. Fueled by the two GE gas turbine units, the Yangjiang Yangxi CHP Project’s newly established cogeneration facility will generate up to 240 megawatts (MW) of power, supporting the progress of the Zhongshan Torch Industrial Transfer Park of Yangjiang.
These four 6F.03 gas turbine units collectively possess the capacity to deliver 480 MW of energy to the grid. By early 2025, when they become operational, the GE turbines will provide consistent power and heat to Yangjiang City in China. This transition will further contribute to the broader bay area’s shift from coal-based to gas-driven energy solutions.
