General Electric Launches Iberdrola’s Topolobampo III Power Plant Operations

GE Stock

General Electric’s (NYSE:GE) unit, GE Vernova, comprising GE Digital, Renewable Energy, and GE Power, has declared the initiation of commercial operations for Iberdrola Mexico’s Topolobampo III power plant.

Situated in Mexico’s Sinaloa state, adjacent to the Topolobampo natural gas pipeline, the Topolobampo III facility is equipped with two GE 7HA.01 gas turbines, three H53 generators, a D650 steam turbine, and advanced plant control systems featuring GE’s integrated Mark VIe Distributed Control System. CERREY, a local licensee of GE’s heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) technology, provided two HRSGs integrated into the facility. With a capacity to generate approximately 766 megawatts, the power plant can supply electricity to over 1.6 million Mexican households.

Leveraging real-time data, the GE equipment package aims to optimize outcomes, enhancing the power plant’s operational stability and efficiency. It is anticipated to improve reliability, asset visibility, availability, and reduce operating and maintenance costs.

GEIQ, GE’s advanced engineering center in Queretaro, Mexico, contributed essential engineering support to the power plant. Local engineers from the region assisted in the commissioning process and will continue to provide post-commissioning support.

General Electric is experiencing positive momentum in the Aerospace segment, driven by robust demand and effective execution in commercial engines and services. Furthermore, a rebound in demand within the Power segment, after a period of softness, bodes well for General Electric. The Power segment is benefiting from the strength in GE Gas Power’s heavy-duty gas turbines.
