Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE:MSI) has revealed that the New South Wales State Emergency Services (NSW SES) has chosen to integrate Motorola’s SmartConnect to advance its mission-critical radio communications infrastructure. This decision follows Fire & Rescue New South Wales’ earlier adoption of SmartConnect to enhance its communication capabilities.
The SmartConnect system is designed to provide exceptional coverage, ensuring connectivity in challenging geographical locations where accessibility is limited and connectivity is weak. In such scenarios, SmartConnect automatically transitions voice channels to the optimal available communication network, whether on land mobile radio or broadband.
SmartConnect enables emergency personnel to utilize in-vehicle LTE or satellite modems for seamless remote access without interruptions. The transition between different networks is swift and smooth, ensuring uninterrupted audio and other radio functionalities.
NSW SES, with a dedicated pool of 10,000 volunteers, responds to various emergencies such as road crashes, storms, floods, and search and rescue operations. The organization serves approximately 50 public safety agencies and 50,000 first responders and emergency personnel through its public safety network. In light of the rising frequency of natural disasters, NSW SES is actively working to enhance its preparedness by expanding the reach and capacity of its radio communication infrastructure.
In emergencies, time sensitivity, proper coordination, and clear information are crucial. SmartConnect is expected to significantly improve voice communication resilience in challenging environments, facilitating rapid information exchange, reducing the risk of misinterpretation, and enhancing the safety of emergency responders. The system’s end-to-end encryption feature ensures security throughout the entire process, even during transitions among Land Mobile Radio (LMR), LTE, WIFI, and satellite networks.
Motorola, a prominent provider of mission-critical communication products and services globally, aims to strengthen its position in the public safety sector through strategic collaborations with other players in the ecosystem. The company’s stock has demonstrated a 25.1% increase over the past year, outpacing the industry’s growth of 9.3%.
