Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV) and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) have jointly announced the achievement of a preliminary agreement. This accord specifically pertains to the more than 480 material specialists employed by LUV.
Adam Carlisle, Vice President of Labor Relations at Southwest Airlines, expressed his satisfaction with the development, stating, “We are delighted to have reached a Preliminary Agreement with the IBT on behalf of our material specialists who play a vital role in supporting our Technical Operations division by ensuring the availability of necessary tools and parts for aircraft maintenance. I commend both teams for their collaborative efforts in reaching this agreement well in advance of the contract’s amendable date, which will benefit our employees.”
It is essential to underscore that the preliminary agreement will only become effective following approval through the ratification voting process. The fate of this agreement hinges on the outcome of this voting procedure. IBT will directly communicate the specifics of LUV’s current agreement and the voting timeline to Southwest Airlines’ members.
