Ford Unveils New 2022 Expedition Timberline

Ford Motor (NYSE; F)

revealed its new off-road Timberline model on Tuesday while disclosing updates to the 2022 Expedition SUV. The model is said to have a rugged style as well as more off-road capabilities.

This will be the second Timberline model following the introduction of the trim on the 2021 Explorer SUV, which had similar features. Ford expects the new Timberline trim to capitalize on the surge of SUV sales and the demand for off-road-capable vehicles.

The Expedition Timberline will be powered by Ford’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine which produces 440 horsepower and 510 foot-pounds of torque.

“Timberline sets a new standard with full-size SUV customers who need more passenger space, great off-road capability and a basecamp for life’s journeys,” Ford Expedition chief engineer Mike Kipley said in a statement.

Additionally, Ford revealed a blacked-out “Stealth Edition Performance Package.” The automaker will also have its BlueCruise hands-free highway driving system available on its top-end Expedition Platinum for 2022.

The BlueCruise system supports hands-free driving on over 130,000 miles of highways in North America. The technology regulates the vehicle’s speed and steering, while also overseeing the driver’s attentiveness amid an infrared camera system.

The 2022 Ford Expedition is scheduled to be available in the first quarter of 2022 but the company has yet to disclose pricing. The current model starts at USD50,000 to USD75,000.
